Biography
Metropolitan Chernovtsy and Bukovina Onufry (Orestes V. Berezovsky) was born November 5, 1944 in the village of Korytny Vashkovetskogo now Vizhnitskogo, district, Chernivtsi region in the family priest. In 1961 he graduated from high school. Over the years 1962-1964 he studied at the Chernivtsi Technical School, then worked in construction organizations of Chernivtsi. In 1966 he joined the Technical Faculty of the University of Chernivtsi. 1969, after the third year at the university was enrolled in the second year of the Moscow Theological Seminary, from which he graduated in 1972. March 18, 1971 he was tonsured. 20 June of the same year was ordained a monk Anufry deacon and May 29, 1972 — to the priesthood. In 1980 he was elevated to the rank of abbot. August 28, 1984 was appointed rector of Holy Transfiguration Church in the village of Mount Athos representation Luchino (station «Peredelkino» Moscow Region) .With 28 June 1985 — dean of the Moscow Holy Trinity-St. On Christmas Day in 1986 was elevated to the rank of Archimandrite. In 1988 he graduated from the MDA with a degree in Theology. Since 1988 — the governor Pochayiv Lavra, served until November 1990. December 9, 1990 consecrated Bishop of Chernivtsi and Bukovina. 1994 was elevated to the rank of archbishop, in 2000 — the rank of Metropolitan. The decision of the Holy Synod on February 24, 2014 (Journal №1) elected locum tenens Kiev metropolitan department. Decision of the Council of Bishops of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church August 13, 2014 elected Primate of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
